so, i’ve been having fun with the latet version of debian. playing around with their daily builds. the sound was fun to try to make it work. so now, it’s on to play with gentoo the rest of the day. from what i’ve heard, that’s how long it’s going to take. i don’t think it will, i’ve done it twice before. the hard part is graphics in gentoo. on any system i’ve done i’ve had problems with graphics and gentoo installs. off to have fun with linux and sql programing!

linux on my laptop
Saturday, July 31st, 2004rss readers
Thursday, July 29th, 2004the first disclaimer is that i didn’t check to see how atom compliant all these are. what i did check for was: default feeds, layout, archiving, ease of use, stability, and overall feel. disclaimer two: your opinions may vary.
the slug-out-ers are as follows: NewsMac, NetNewsWire (Lite and Pro), Pulp Fiction, bottomfeeder, and shrook. (more…)
homeworld 2 to come to the mac
Thursday, July 29th, 2004aspyr’s homeworld 2 page. i was just complaining/thinking how nice it would be to play homeworld on my laptop. well, now it will officially be coming out next month. which means i’ll be buying it as soon as it it’s available in stores. only because if i do, i hope they’ll cary more mac software and games. it’s a one man war it seems some days, but hey, some body has got to do it!
toys that help humanity? well, at the very least, toys….
Thursday, July 29th, 2004so i was browsing the web for nintendo and came across a couple of articles. the first one i came across was here as i was looking for a way to get my gba:sp online. so, it looks like we’ll have some options for multiplayer! now if they can just get it to where all games that support multiple connections support this one device, i’d be happy. then they just need to have it built in so it’s not so ugly. but that’s just details…
i was looking at that and thinking about how cool the next game boy will be, so i started looking around and found a pretty nice article here. pretty much talks about what is already known, however it’s also got some of the updates in a nice compact form. the “final” model is a slimmer and the buttons are more optimized. i just hope that it has some nice simple pda functions and it will sync up with isync. hey, i can dream!
and finally, the greatest nintendo article i’ve read in a long time. over at gc-linux.org they’ve got some new screenshots of the system up and running. it’s a great concept. turn any game system into a linux computer. i’ve seem them for xbox around, and sony sells it’s own version. but with the gamecube, it’s so nice and small, that i just can’t stop wondering what it would take to get folding@home on one of those things! in my house alone we have two gamecubes that sit idle more then 50% of the week! if it ever does work on a system, it might be nice to use that idle time and do something nice for humanity kinda thing.
so there’s the wrap up for my nintendo quests this week: short range wireless for current system, updates on future system, and an attempt to help humanity from the cubed one! all in all, a good week i’d say…
oh the archives…
Tuesday, July 27th, 2004well, i’ve almost got my entire old blogs moved over. september and october of 2003 area ll done. all of 2004 is done, i think…so that leaves the rest of december and all of november 2003. so, now that i’m on my third bloging system in less than a year, i think i’ve found what i’m looking for. wordpress has all the power i want, and enough flexibility to stick around for a long time. i mean, i can have sever types of styles and base those either on css type markups, or just make an index file that sits along side the main file. and why? because it’s just that cool. i’ve been impressed as to how easy it’s been to get all that old data on over, true, it did take some time, but what doesn’t?
and what does all that mean? well, it means that you have even more of my stupid comments to help satisfy your hunger! and if you do fine an error of some sort, please, either comment or send me an e-mail. thanks, have fun, and God bless!
update: i finished the 2003 archives. only took thirty minutes, which was like a third of the amount of time i was expecting. so, once again, more ramblings and just randomness! the frelling randomness that is my little site. go play.
today is the day
Tuesday, July 27th, 2004well, later today my dad will be getting his gastric bypass surgery. thank you everyone for your prayers and support. it’s been hard on our family, and it only gets harder for awhile. at least that’s what we’ve been told by all the doctors. so, keep praying and hoping. thanks again everyone! have fun, and God bless!
update: he made it! the surgery went well and my dad is in icu for at least 24 hours as is typical for this particular surgery. thank again for all the prayer everyone!
design, tools, and farscape!
Monday, July 26th, 2004so, i’ve been playing around with all sorts of blogging and other tools. and different database tools. it’s been a long weekend as a result. so today, i took some time to play one of the greatest real time strategy games ever: total annihilation! they need to make a new version, mainly just for an improved ai and a little more stable plugin architecture. however, having like four thousand units to choose from is great.
so the checklist is now as follows:
finish new site design – update: done! old one is here
update: rss reader reviews are complete
new: redesign the logo for ‘the kitchen sink’ please e-mail me with ideas
tpg up and running
whatever other fun i come up with…
in the mean time, keep checking out save farscape for all the newest stuff on the mini series.
built in blogging?
Saturday, July 24th, 2004well, aparently apple has bundled a blogging utility with the pre-release of tiger. i was reading this about it, and it seems really cool! i haven’t used blosxom , or the java version which is bundled with tiger, however i think i will soon. my only complaint is that the wwdc release of tiger was really buggy, way worse than panther was in it’s original beta stages. but there’s almost more new core features, core meaning under the hood in this case. so, this might be cool. spark a new/different blogging craze? might be kinda cool, especially when coupled with dyndns and broadband.
one fixed one broken
Saturday, July 24th, 2004so, i got the login problem with ecto fixed. but now the comments have disapeared. just my luck eh? i almost wish i could post everything that i did, but i can’t/won’t until the comments come back. come back comments! they’ve all run off with where things should be probably, oh well!
as for ecto, i don’t even know what all it can do yet. but it seems really cool! just my $.03 is all…more to come ::insert evil laughter here::
update: i fixed the comments sections. i’m not sure what all is going on over at wordpress, but it’s mostly working, everything but those comments for me thus far. go fig!
at the sight of my blog in…
Friday, July 23rd, 2004here’s a picture to make you all feel better about not commenting.

now you can all say that you were shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel, and thus couldn’t regain your composure to comment on anything. because that’s in no way silly!
