yay for sinatra

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

I recently got some new cds, sinatra is playing right now. and i must admit that this is still my favorite all around sinatra album. the whole album has got some great bass trombone parts as well, which helps it be that much better!

listed below are the lyrics to the song that’s stuck in my head right now, however, there really isn’t a bad tune on this album. like, at all! “i got it bad and that ain’t good” has some cool solos in it, “I Won’t Dance” is possibly the best all around sinatra song from a musicians perspective (little of everything) and helps propel this album to the top of my sintra album favorites!

ok, so i’ve got his song stuck in my head due to the lyrics and the music:

No one ever tells you what’s like to love and lose,
How it feels to waken and have breakfast with the blues,
How to go on living, how to face another day,
No one ever tells you the way.
No one ever tells you how it feels to walk alone,
Listening for those footsteps through the echo of your own.
Suddenly it hits you all those dreams not worth a dime,
Cause no one ever tells you in time.
Long before the icy winds of winter,
Autumn tells the swallows, time to fly,
Why did she pretend till the bitter end
Till it broke my heart to say goodbye.
And no one ever tells you that it’s just another fling
No one ever warns you when your heart begins to sting
Someone tells you later all is fair in love and war,
But no one ever tells you before.
(instrumental)
No one ever tells you that it’s just another fling,
No one ever warns you when your heart begins to sting
Someone tells you later all is fair in love and war,
But no one ever tells you before.
It never comes easy, no one ever tells you before.

as a side note, i’ll add some more opinions on my other new cd’s soon. true, they’re all old albums, but you might want to get them as they are pretty good afterall!

the history channel rocks!

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

i’m watching the history channel special on comic books (again). i’m a big comic book fan, and this is actually a great special. i kinda wish graphic novels were more promeninet and accepted. i’m still not sure why there’s such a stigma with comic books, especially with all the movies coming out! they’ve tackled so many big issues over the years (guns, drugs, land mines, 9-11, pearl harbor, etc) that i think they’d just keep going. guess i’m just silly like that.

speaking of comic book movies, go see batman begins! all be it, i saw it with some really cool people (commenting on donald trump…i’m still laughing!), however, it’s still just an awesome movie! using the scarecrow as the first publicized villian i think really helped add some ways to get every single part of the batman universe into this new movie franchise. yes, franchise darn it! lets get some continuity and longevity out of it this time. they’ve changed enough (i think in a good way) to make it cool like that. like the skyline, using chicago for alot of things instead of using new york only (both are in there, i swear!). as opposed to spoiling it, i’ll finish there.

on another note, i decided to put a bit of a couple of test on my myspace(here).

the world of fun

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

well, working at has been a world of fun. however, it’s quite taxing my writing abilities. coding, fictional, here, graphea rithmos…they’ve all suffered. the good news is that i’m settling into my new schedule and should be back up and running full steam pretty soon. thanks again to everybody for all the fun e-mails.

however, my storms project is about to go live. check it out here. it’s kinda my experiment into a free form database of sorts. the interface needs some tweaking, but the engine is pretty good as it is (for very basic things). the offshoots are going to be iWrite (for authors) and iDo (for families). although, as i’m writing it (very slowly) iWrite is turning into a history app. so maybe history students will like it?

so the question that i keep asking myself is: why? there’s so many other apps that do all of this, why write a new one? well, because i can for one. and there’s nothing like iWrite that i’ve seen that’s not way too expesnive. me, an open source junkie? never….speaking of which, linux v windows v os x86 article coming soon.

bored? kinda…

i came home this morning from work and found my little brother in my bed. so, i decided to finish a quiz my friend made, and at the end figured i might as well make my own….

there’s the officialy link thingy they give. as for now, i think it’s back to world of warcraft….oh, right, finish the post…have fun!

blog engines

Friday, June 3rd, 2005

i think i’ve made it pretty clear over the years that my favorite blog engine is word press. however, with recent releases it have become more and more complex, to the point of where i’m not sure if even i can disasemble everything into coherent code. oddly enough, this is a good thing as it’s what happens when you have a good complex program. but, the point remains that it’s harder to jump into the dev proccess head first like i was once able to. it took almost an hour to really get my bearing in the 1.5 releases, maybe i’m slow (which is very very possible).

so, what i’m trying to do is make a blog engine/cms that has all the coolness of what i remember wordpress doing. one of those little things is adding sub catagories. when i blog i usually have a macro subject that i’m typing about and about 13 sub catagories. problem is, some of those 13 i’m only commenting on that one time. so i’ve debated on adding alot of extra database space or just writing it in as one line. these are things i don’t know yet and driving me to my next announcement.

i’m buckling down and creating my own cms based on my storms project. (a link will come once i get this site moved to textdrive)

the nice things:
easily searchable with a google-ish interface
as many catagories as you want
totally open and expandable

goals:
code small enough and smart enough to satisfy even the most stringent of space needs (which i think is a 1mb server i found)
more open codinng style
better authentication
integration with phpMyNotes (an application my friend is writing)
flash integreation (long story, but it’s a good thing, really)
a psudo-wiki (don’t ask, it works though)

honestly, some of this is just here for me. a bookmark if you will! but, possibly something cool to do. so, why cms not just blogging? well, blogs are only for so much. cms (content management system) will allow me to plug into so many other facets of technology that it’s not even funny. i know some blog systems allow you to do this, but i didn’t write them, and i want to. so have fun, and i’ll post updates later.
