ways to write what

Monday, January 21st, 2008

there’s a few applications that one could use when writing a blog entry. a word processor, a plain text editor, web forms. they’re all viable, but what one is the best? the answer is yes. for a long time i used MarsEdit. before that SubEthaEdit. and somewhere in there i tried ecto and handful of other things. currently, i’m just using the web forms built into WordPress. what i have realized is that they’re all the best…at different things. MarsEdit and its kin are great if you want to write many entries across time and constantly need to edit past entries. SubEthaEdit and other text editors are great if you need to export any article in any format at any time. and then there’s the lovely web form, it’s most positive feature is that you can write form anywhere you have web access. the down side to web forms is that you need a browser that can support them and you miss out on some nice features, like the tab key.

anything that’s worth doing…

After weeks of frustration I’ve come to a few conclusions about some of the things that I’m doing

  • Riding my bike is a good thing
  • There are some applications that really are better as non-web apps
  • My priorities need to get better and corrected
  • I really do need music to operate correctly
  • I’m horrible at reading/writing daily unless it comes to work
  • Monitor stands need to be more common
  • I can get more done in MacOSX than any other OS these days
  • TextMate and SubEthaEdit really are just THAT good
  • Notepad++ is the best Windows editor I’ve found…and it’s not that great
  • Dungeon Siege II is a horribly planned and designed game
  • Star Wars: Emprie At War has almost 0 replayability
  • WoW is the most intuitive MMO, and thus 9 million people
  • Vendetta Online is a great game
  • GA needs a back log to really work the way I want it to
  • I really need to stop thinking that I need to write my own engine for everything to work correctly
  • I’ve accomplished so many of my goals in life, I’m a little confused onw hat to do next.

That’s it, in no real order aside from the order they finally formed in my brain.

It’s like Death, people know it’s coming, but you get a little uncomfortable when people start talking dates.

It’s one of the best lines from the show Coupling I’ve heard yet. And there’s been a lot of great lines. At just a few episodes a season it goes quick in a nice way. 20 minutes here and there goes nicely and it’s kinda relaxing, the satire and irony does a long way to help make it enjoyable.

a new set for a new year

Top things I’d like to do this year in regards to my blog

  • redesign the blog interface
  • create a nice backlog of content
  • continue the “bad blogging” section
  • clean up the organization and categories
  • be more consistent

To be clear, these aren’t “Ne Year’s Resolutions” but rather a set of goals that I’ve had for awhile, but were limited previously by time. Without having to do any sort of guild stuff in WoW or any other game and toning down some of my other random home projects I hope to garner more time to get my true pet projects done.

some of my other “little” projects include

  • redesigning my mothers class reunion page
  • using my newly created “unification engine” on my front page
  • create a section devoted to table-top gaming
  • write more
  • finish my H1.R0 engine

And there you have it. Think I can get it all done by the end of the month?
